Master in Electrical Engineering

Introduction Power system planning, design, operation and maintenance of control systems. Mission The Master program in Electrical Engineering of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira is conceived as a space for research and technological innovation in the efficient and optimal use of power and its components, as an essential asset for the development of our society. Awarded Title Master in Electrical Engineer  Lines of Specialization Planning in Power Electrical Systems 1.1  Research Groups Planning in electrical systems This line develops engineering and mathematics applications that are present in real-life problems. One of its main research areas are financial and economic aspects and of production related to electricity markets. Another aspect studied is the production in industrial environments, i.e. in flexible manufacturing related problems, problems with task assignments, transportation, schedule assignments and packaging problems. Research Interests: Transmission Planning Distribution Planning Hydrothermal distribution Electrical Quality service Stability of Power Systems Electrical Machines (Modeling and control) Electrical protection Soft computing applications to power systems  Line of Computer Sciences It includes the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation in computer systems. The different fields emphasize in specific results of computing, of the properties of algorithms and of the theory of programming languages. Operations Research This line develops engineering and mathematics applications present in real-life problems. One of its main research areas are financial and economic aspects of production related to electricity markets. Another aspect studied is the production of industrial environments, for example, flexible manufacturing related problems, problems with assignments, transportation, assignment schedules and packaging problems. Areas of research: Planning and optimum management of processes Risk Analysis Applied Mathematics Neural Networks Optimization (accurate and combinatorial) Probabilistic models Assignment and packing problems. 2. Control in Industrial Electrical Systems 2.1 Lines Line in Instrumentation and Control It seeks to strengthen research through the creation, assimilation and adaptation of technologies applied to the solution of problems related to control and instrumentation of industrial process and modeling and of the development of modern models for the control of industrial facilities. Industrial Electronics Line This line is responsible for the power devices in solid state, different types of converters based on them and their application in electric power systems, improving reactive compensation or through methods to improve power quality, also the study of static power converters in industrial systems. Line in Bioelectronics Bioelectronics is the branch of electronics that is responsible for studying the behavior of biological organisms and how to model, analyze and characterize the functions and processes of the parts that belong to it by means of mathematical models, circuital and digital processing of signals. Mechatronics Line It’s the integration of mechanical engineering with electronics and with the control of intelligent computers for the design and manufacture of products and processes.

Introduction The program of Specialization in Digital Electronics seeks for the improvement of the production and the competitiveness of corporations by using electronics. Professional Profile The graduate will be able to apply its skills and knowledge to design and implement advanced electronic-based systems for monitoring and controlling production processes. The goal is to increase productivity and competitiveness of the companies. The graduate will be capable of leading technology innovation through research, design, planning, development and implementation of solutions in the field of Digital Electronics. He / She will be trained for the proper formulation of proposals, research projects and technological development. The graduate can participate in research, teaching, technology development, consulting, and project management in the academic and business fields. Objectives General Objective The program will train specialists in digital electronics with solid knowledge and research skills in the areas of Data Processing, Control, and Embedded Systems, with capacity for creation, innovation and technological development through optimum usage of physical, technical and human resources; while pursuing the humanity, scientific and technological development not only of the region but of the country. Specific Objectives Deepen the knowledge in areas such as data processing, control and embedded systems, while apply this knowledge to help improve productivity and competitiveness of organizations and the quality of life of people. Specialization in Data Networks

Introduction The Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira, through the Faculty of Engineering, and specifically the program of Systems and IT Engineer offers a postgraduate academic program in the area of Data Networks with the idea of offering a Master degree in the future. It is based on the extensive experience and track record achieved in over a decade which is evidenced by the quality of its graduates that answer the growing needs in the local, regional and national levels to improve productivity and competitiveness of businesses, enabling them to make efficient use of technology platforms that support business activities. It is offered to graduate students with the confidence of having a program of high academic quality and relevance in our region. Awarded Title: Specialist in data networks. Structure The Specialization in Data Networks lasts for two semesters. It will have curriculum committee, which will be chaired by the Director of the Program and representative teachers from each one of the areas, a representative of the graduates and a representative of the students. This entity will be responsible for performing constant verification of the contents of the subjects in order to ensure the relevance of the content taught. Methodology The subjects will include a theoretical component as well as a practical one. At least 30% of each subject corresponds to the practical part which involves laboratory practices and / or projects with teacher supervision. The theoretical part corresponds to lectures where they develop deeper theoretical aspects of each topic. The program is offered using the in site mode.

Physicist Engineering

Introduction: Education of professionals with technical and scientific skills, delving into the use of technological and IT tools. Contribute to the integration between different areas and give the engineer an opportunity to broaden his/her skills as a researcher, taking into account that he/she is a professional in physics applied to the industry but with enough interdisciplinary contacts that favor a comprehensive, dynamic and structured education. Professional Profile The education of the Physical Engineering is based in the developable set of features that characterize the person in its professional activity, which is the result of an integration of knowledge, skills and abilities. In the context of the program, the professional education is provided by the knowledge given to the physicist engineer through two major cycles: The Foundations Cycle and Professional Cycle. These develop basic skills in the graduates such as synthetic and analytical reasoning, mathematical ability, ability to solve technological problems, modeling and optimizing processes, design, implement and evaluate experiments, design instrumental equipment, management software, design and assembly of hardware, design and construct measurement equipment, design and construct interfaces for microprocessors, evaluation and use of information contained in technical journals, manuals, newsletters and more. Transmission and Distribution Systems Design, planning and building of networks of medium and high voltage through the power system modeling, considering the demand projection studies, load flow and optimization. Reliability of electrical systems Modeling registered electrical systems in a framework of quality and continuity, given the national standards (CREG) and international standardization. Systematic control and electrical systems Using modern techniques of digital control, design and construction of systems for monitoring and automation of power grids: SCADA systems, Remote control, Control. Mission The Faculty of Electrical Engineering focuses its work on the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the fields of electricity, electronics and communications. As a unit of an official academic institution of Higher Education, it provides quality teaching and promotes research, continuing education and outreach to the community thus contributing to the scientific, technological, cultural and humanistic development of our society. Objectives Consistent with the Mission of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira, the Electrical Engineering program seeks to train high academic professionals, leaders in social dynamics, with ethical, critical and investigative capacity, enabling them to interpret the phenomena surrounding the electrical energy and preparing them to develop scientific and technical methods that make possible its production and practical, useful and affordable usage. Lines of Research and Development Electrical Power Systems Electrical Systems Planning Control applied to Electrical and Industrial Systems Virtual Instrumentation Automation Control Systems Power System Simulation Power Electronic Laboratories The program currently has 5 physical spaces that are used to teach laboratory workshops. Each laboratory is equipped with a range of tools that cover certain topics of electrical engineering such as: The electrical circuits The Electronics The industrial automation The electrical machines Communications The rooms are currently used by 8 undergraduate programs and 1 postgraduate program and are opened Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 10 pm. The rooms are named for their primary use, but are similarly equipped. These rooms are: 1. Electrical Circuits Laboratory: basic electricity subjects are taught, such as: Electrical, Circuit Lab I, II and III, Analog Electronics. 2. Electronics Laboratory: Subjects related to analog and digital electronics are taught; such as: electronics laboratories, microcontrollers, and communications. 3. Electrical Machines Laboratory: This room is equipped with motor-generators that serve as workshops for the subjects of electrical power and electrical machines and transformers. 4. Electrical Measurements Laboratory: In this lab students are educated about sensors, electrical measurements, electronics, electronic design, digital systems, and control. 5. Automation Laboratory (also used as normal classroom): This room is used for the teaching of industrial automation systems, programmable logic automation, programmable digital systems and also as a normal classroom for subjects such as industrial relief, generation, and so on. In addition to these rooms, there are also 3 other areas which are: 1. Control Laboratory, in charge of the Engineers Eduardo Giraldo and Didier Giraldo. 2. Power Electronics / Robotics Lab. Lead by the engineers Alfonso Gomez Alzate and Luis Hernando Rios. 3. New Technologies Laboratory under the surveillance of the engineer Alvaro Angel Orozco. These rooms are used by research groups working on research projects, thesis papers and some faculty offices belonging to these groups.

Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering was established on December 13, 2004 by the Higher Council of the University, where they create a single authority, which houses the following academic programs: Electrical Engineering Electronic Engineering Physical Engineering Computer and Systems Engineering Since then the College's academic interest has focused on the production, updating, transmission and application of knowledge in relation to the rational and efficient use of energy. This decision was made to justify their high affinities: Basic, Basic Engineering and a few in depth lines, despite its basic purpose was different. It was also made with the idea of obtaining not only academic excellence but also an adequate rationalization of the resources of the University. Following this decision, the agreement number seven (07) of the Higher Council of the University regulates and assigns a specific nomenclature to the faculty, in addition to defining its organizational structure, in accordance to the new operating model of the four programs listed above working under one roof: "The Faculty of Engineering." Mission It is a faculty of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira that focuses on the creation, application and transfer of knowledge in the areas of competence, in order to contribute to the social and economic development of the region and the country plunged in the academic community and international scientific networks and research groups, providing training processes of high quality and academic excellence at the undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education, and provides services to the productive sector.
