Industrial Technology

Introduction:

The Industrial Technology program is a part of the Faculty of Technology of the UTP and it is a response to the growing technological development.

Mission

The Industrial Technology is an academic program which is part of the Faculty of Technology of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira, whose Mission is:
The construction, alteration, dissemination and application of technological knowledge articulated in the scientific, humanistic and artistic for the improvement of society with priority in the region, with an emphasis on the management of economic production processes.

Vision

By 2010, the Industrial Technology will have formed and consolidated research groups organized in defined academic centers, which will help technology training at different levels, and technological and economic development in their area of ??influence.

Objectives 

General Objective

The following Objectives are suggested:

"Educate professionals, able to manage resources in an optimal way in the production of goods and services to increase productivity without harming the environment."
Promote the development of an entrepreneurial attitude in students.

Specific Objectives

The Industrial Technology Program trains professionals who will be able to play the following functions, optimally:

  • Analyze the production process to make improvements (search for productivity) 
  • Calculate, implement and monitor standards of time, cost and quality.
  • Manage staff and ensure their satisfaction and development.
  • Contribute to environmental conservation through proposals and actions to minimize the impact of business on it.

Professional Profile

Current Profile

The successful performance of the Industrial Technologist in the workplace requires solid training in skills related to:

  • The administration and operation of production processes.
  • The motivations and barriers that influence human behavior both at work such as efficiency and quality.
  • The collection of data generated in the production system and its analysis, interpretation and use in terms of feedback for corrective action.
The Industrial Technologist must also possess:
  • Leadership skills to produce constructive change and overcome resistance to it.
  • Creativity to come up with new and better solutions.
  • Management skills to act promptly and safely.
  • Conceptual clarity and formal correctness in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to use tools and instruments for oral presentations.

Occupational Profile

The Industrial Technologist can work in all types of manufacturing or service companies occupying the following positions:

  • Production Supervisor.
  • Quality Supervisor of production processes.
  • Occupational Health Supervisor, industrial hygiene supervisor and safety supervisor.
  • Methods and times Analyst.
  • Staff training Assistant.
  • Industrial Warehouse Manager.
  • Human Resource Management Assistant.
  • Costs department Assistant.
  • Planning, scheduling and production control department Assistant.
  • In addition to the above, the Industrial technologist is also able to create and manage his/hers own business.
