English courses offered at ILEX are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ( CEFR)
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching and assessment (CEFR) is conceived as a Framework of Reference whose primary aim is to establish international guidelines in order to assess the levels of comprehension as well as the levels of oral and written Foreign Language proficiency. Based on extensive research by the Council of Europe, the CEFR is based on internationally recognized guidelines designed to provide a transparent, coherent and comprehensive basis for the elaboration of syllabi, language tests and achievement level descriptors. These standards describe the learning goals that Foreign Language learners must reach in order to successfully communicate in the target Language. The CEFR defines six proficiency levels which respond to specific communicative outcomes that learners must fulfill at every learning stage. The National Ministry of Education in Colombia adopted the CEFR for the Implementation of the National Plan of Bilingualism 2004-2019, which includes the new standards of communicative competence in English that the Foreign Language Institute – ILEX – has been implementing from its beginning.
