General Information
The Veterinary Medicine Program is focused in solving problems related to animal health and production by improving the quality of life of these and the general population. Therefore it has been divided into 10 semesters with five main areas of training which are: Basic Biomedical Sciences, Animal Health, Animal Production, Humanities, and Economics and Financial Management. Our students have adequate infrastructure in terms of existing laboratories in the Health Sciences Faculty and field practices that are conducted through agreements with producers in the livestock sector. During the last 2 semesters the program also offers clinical rotations and internships.
Mission: Veterinary Medicine of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira is a program dedicated to educating professionals of the livestock sector with an overall education, developing scientific knowledge between teaching, research, innovation and extension with high quality standards.
General And Specific Objectives
To train well rounded professionals with a solid social, humanistic and technical-scientific approach, with critical and investigative skills to enable him/her to develop optimally in the local, regional, national and international levels in the areas of animal health and production. With an emphasis on Business Development and Reproductive Biotechnology.
Develop projects related to the solution of problems related to animal science to improve the quality of life of these and of society.
Promote Biomedical Basic Sciences Research using animal models and extrapolate the results in animal production, animal and human health accordingly.
Profile: Design and develop programs for diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of diseases of domestic and wildlife animals, and implement effective management programs aimed at increasing the productivity of livestock corporations and conservation of wildlife.
