Specialization in Management of Health Systems

Welcome

The Specialization in Management of Health Systems with its 15 years of existence is a contribution made by the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira to the development of the Health Sector. The social security model of the country requires professionals with high capacity for innovation and leadership to build a new range of Health Services, capable of achieving the goals of the laws and regulations or propose alternatives when its application is not viable. The Specialization is an open space for creativity with a solid academic foundation allowing systematic approach to train specialists in specific areas of management, health systems, public health, research, human development, environmental management and with the financial component in the field of health.

Mission

The specialization in Management of Health Systems is a postgraduate program of the Health Sciences Faculty at the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira that educates specialized human talent in the area of management. Management is complemented by a specialist concerned with society, business and individuals in terms of ensuring the quality and humanization of services, which contribute to improving the well-being of humans and their social groups.

Vision

By 2012 the specialization in Management of Health Systems will be a specialized with accreditation of high quality, and regional and national recognition.

Objectives

  • To train professionals with a post graduate level of specialization in the design, development and management of health systems and services.

  • Contribute to the solution of health problems through the training of specialized personnel in health systems with systems approach.

  • Increase knowledge on health systems and services through research and extension.

Profiles

Professional Profile

During all the activities of the program there will be a special emphasis in orientating the graduate to self-learning, respecting their peers and ethical application of knowledge.

Given the strong social and humanistic training in the program, the graduate is expected to be a leader with a high academic level, with critical and research capacity in interdisciplinary teams to interact with an attitude of dialogue, tolerance and respect for differences. His/her actions will be guided by justice and fairness, always looking for individual and collective well-being within the community it serves.

Occupational Profile

  • The graduate will be able to:
  • Design, implement and evaluate plans, programs and projects for the preservation or restoration of health.
  • Give advice and participate in activities to ensure effective community participation in health plans and programs.
  • Participate in the development of research in health services.
  • To promote intersectoral action to improve health conditions.
  • Design, develop and evaluate health services networks complying with the fundamentals of primary care and within the laws and regulations.
  • Manage the local health system or any of its institutions or agencies both in the public and private sectors.
  • Participate in planning, management and implementation of environmental conservation programs.
