Mission
The Specialization in Internal Medicine is a program designed to deepen the understanding of the care of sick patients from 18 years of age. The Postgraduate program meets the need for clinical specialists in the region with knowledge in this area. The program is developed to strengthen certain indispensable areas to proper care of a patient such as cardiology, neurology, dermatology, endocrinology, rheumatology, geriatrics, oncology, gastroenterology, hematology, among others.

In the near future, the specialist in internal medicine will be pioneer in the field of research and will have positively and significantly influenced the community with their knowledge.
Objectives
General Objectives
To train specialists in the care, teaching, administrative and research tasks related to internal medicine, taking into account the needs of the country.
Acquire theoretical and practical scientific knowledge and relevant skills for the care of patients at different stages in internal medicine.
Specific Objectives:
- Acquire the cognitive knowledge in the area of ??internal medicine, to lead the patient in the bio-psycho-social aspects
- Acquire the capacity to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate the patients with clinical problems while fully knowing the physio-pathological mechanisms and therapeutic indications and limitations, to develop clinical skills in the area of ??internal medicine.
- Perform a medical history and physical examination, order the laboratory tests and other paraclinical tests that are necessary. Be able to evaluate the cost / benefit value of them both economically and emotionally. Analyze the information obtained by the medical history and tests ordered, to finally establish a treatment plan.
- Train the medical internist ethically.
- Promote the research capacity that will enable clinical problem solving, applying the scientific method and evidence-based medicine.
- Encourage interdisciplinary teamwork that benefits the patient, enhancing human values ??such as respect, wisdom, solidarity and coexistence
- To develop knowledge and skills necessary to describe and understand the total care of the adult, from the ambulatory management for prevention, promotion, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of chronic illness to management in the hospital and in the Intensive Care Unit for the diagnosis and treatment of more severe illnesses.
- Teach to use diagnostic and therapeutic technology in a rational manner, taking into account the management of new information compared to what they had previously.
- Incorporate elements of search and analysis of the best information available to benefit patients and their families.
- Develop skills of conciliation in order to adequately manage conflict situations in the management of patients and their families.
- Promote a teaching attitude in the specialist.
- Integrate the so called "Scientific Community" through communication, discussion and research.
- Promote the best use of resources in the health sector.
- To guide the practice of internal medicine specialist within the legal framework when exercising the profession nationally and internationally.
