Master in International Migrations

General Information

Awarded Title: Master in International Migration

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

Migration is a topic of interest to almost all countries and communities. The number of international migrants is estimated at 214 million, of which 4 million are Colombians. This is a new and increasing fact in many of its expressions and social, economic, political and cultural conditions. Its complexity demands that professionals from many disciplines specialize in it, in order to understand and interpret it, and to suggest actions and policies to manage it, leading to enhance its benefits and reduce its negative consequences.

This has led to the Red Alma Mater, and the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira and the Universidad de Caldas, as part of it, to design this curriculum.

After basic common training during the first two semesters, the program gives the student the opportunity, through electives, to emphasize in a certain aspect of international migration which will allow to:

  • Manage theories and concepts in a consistent and updated manner.
  • Participate in work and interdisciplinary research processes.
  • Study the issue as a social multilevel reality (local, regional, national, international).
  • Identify trends in International Migration and suggest response scenarios.
  • Formulate policies and develop plans, programs and projects of intervention in contexts affected by international migration.
  • Suggest research methodologies with innovative approaches that enrich and strengthen the knowledge.
