PhD in Education

Introduction Taking into account that the importance of education, besides the appropriate use of communication tools foresees a correct emission and reception of content through pedagogical techniques to intervene in the process of political, economic and cultural development of society, the UTP has established the Ph.D. program in Education. Professionals interested in exploring this field, will be able to contribute to the creation of educational thinking trends and also to strengthen academic communities through a dynamic ongoing dialogue and exchange through networks and projects. Mission The PhD in Educational Sciences seeks to train researchers who have intellectual and critical skills to select, diagnose, and theorize the factors involved in shaping educational culture. The orientation towards the production of knowledge involves a commitment to training in scientific rationality in ethical responsibility to provide direction, coherence and identity to Latin American education. General Objectives Direct research towards the Latin American educational problems. To manage joint research projects between universities in Colombia, Latin America and Europe and of other continents.  Develop student and faculty exchange between universities and educational institutions in Latin America. Promote interagency publications about Latin American educational context. Provide teachers and doctoral students access to libraries, documentation centers, networks and information systems on the Internet. Encourage academic training of university teachers in the doctoral level. Promote the organization of doctoral academic events: congresses, symposia, seminars, meetings in the field of American education. Objectives of the Educational Thought and Communication Area Support and promote the formation of autonomous and competent researchers in the scientific study of the problems of educational thought and communication that allow for the formulation and implementation of policies and projects to accompany processes and innovations in the four lines of the area. Promote research practices, knowledge and attitudes for the formation of a critical mass of researchers and university professors that can provide relevant elements for the study and understanding of priority educational problems in the area of educational thought and communication, as conceived in this doctoral program. Contribute to the creation of schools of thought about educational thinking and communication, and also to strengthen academic communities through a dynamic ongoing dialogue and exchange through networks and projects. Master in International Migrations

General Information Awarded Title: Master in International Migration Duration: 2 years (4 semesters) maestriamigraciones@almamater.edu.co Migration is a topic of interest to almost all countries and communities. The number of international migrants is estimated at 214 million, of which 4 million are Colombians. This is a new and increasing fact in many of its expressions and social, economic, political and cultural conditions. Its complexity demands that professionals from many disciplines specialize in it, in order to understand and interpret it, and to suggest actions and policies to manage it, leading to enhance its benefits and reduce its negative consequences. This has led to the Red Alma Mater, and the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira and the Universidad de Caldas, as part of it, to design this curriculum. Profile After basic common training during the first two semesters, the program gives the student the opportunity, through electives, to emphasize in a certain aspect of international migration which will allow to: Manage theories and concepts in a consistent and updated manner. Participate in work and interdisciplinary research processes. Study the issue as a social multilevel reality (local, regional, national, international). Identify trends in International Migration and suggest response scenarios. Formulate policies and develop plans, programs and projects of intervention in contexts affected by international migration. Suggest research methodologies with innovative approaches that enrich and strengthen the knowledge.

Master in History

Introduction The MA in History, with emphasis on research, is intended to cover a fundamental need for academic and cultural development of the region. It provides a theoretical and research learning that contributes to the knowledge of the different historical and social processes of the region and the country as part of nation building, from a political, economical, social, cultural, educational and environmental perspective. The Master also delves into the various aspects of the complex process of the historian: the production of historical knowledge, historiographical reflection, the use and ownership of the archives, the various modes of scientific production, multicultural and interdisciplinary studies; as well as in the teaching, the research dissemination and the promotion of cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible. The program is divided into four semesters and it deals with the creation of a theoretical and historical contextualization that allows research processes within a relational and critic perspective, and whose support is in three lines and three research groups with academic and research tradition both regionally and nationally. These are: Environmental History (Management in Culture and Environmental Education Group), Social and Political History (Policies, sociability and Historical Representations Education Group) and History of Education (Pedagogical and Educational research Group) This Master has established an academic agreement with the French Institute of Andean Studies (IFEA), so the courses will have international experts in the various issues addressed in the curriculum. Profile Graduates of the Master in History may develop the following career fields: Researcher of local and regional problems and issues of human sciences that can have a methodological and theoretical support in history. Qualified Teachers (in higher education) in disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields of history. Project Manager and developer of cultural programs in both the private and official sector, aimed at rescuing the tangible and intangible heritage of the nation. Objectives To train researchers in the field of history, from the experience of the groups and the research interests of the Master. To promote local and regional historical research in the framework of political, economic and social processes of the nation. To encourage historical research in the field of education and pedagogy. Strengthen knowledge and historical research on cultural and ethnic diversity at the regional level.

Master in Linguistics

The economic, social and political conditions in the Colombian Coffee Region create a perfect space of reflection from different fields of social sciences. One of the manifestations that identify the region is their linguistic expressions which, with the above conditions, form a way of being in the context and communicate within it, structuring a symbolic world with its own specific language. The MS program in Linguistics with an emphasis in Language and Society, intends to impact the social, linguistic and educational aspects by training linguists at an advanced level to describe, analyze and explain that linguistic, cultural and education characterization in the region; and undertake further research projects aimed at a better understanding of the regional idiosyncrasies expressed in their everyday behavior. This knowledge is expected to be derived from research projects related to the man and his region and to improve the quality of life and education at all levels. The most important claim of the academic program is to train researchers in the Science of Language, in a field as specific as social interaction influenced by the use of language and contextual factors. General Information Mode: In site General Objectives Meet the academic demand of the graduates of the School of Spanish and Communication Studies of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira, and other academic programs and institutions to qualify in the Language Sciences. To provide a space where academic excellence is shared, fortified and more knowledge and methodologies are gained regarding the linguistic research, in order to apply it in different cultural environments. Provide students with the theoretical means to understand, research and explain the various issues involved in the study of language in both its formal phase as its contextual use.  Specific Objectives  Provide the necessary theoretical and methodological elements for: Consolidate the institutional effort of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira to develop linguistic studies in the region. Train teachers and researchers in Language Sciences at the level of Masters. Understand, analyze and explain the sociolinguistic and pragmatic reality in the Colombian Coffee Region and study their variations at different levels of language. Study language in different contexts of use and structural complexity. Perform, coordinate and conduct research processes in the current use of the language and sociolinguistic, ethno-linguistic and pragmatic implications. Create and strengthen an academic area where they provide the needed language training in order for the graduates to be able to teach linguistics at any level of education. Train teacher with the ability to give advice to groups and educational institutions in the research of sociolinguistic and discursive problems in their relation with teaching and learning the mother tongue. Train linguists that are able to integrate in interdisciplinary research groups.

Master in Education

The Master in Education has as its main purpose the training of researchers in the field of disciplinary and interdisciplinary education. Focused on the development of educational research competence, it provides training with an emphasis on teaching, in order to allow active teachers qualify their practices and professional performance. The Master has qualified registration, according to Resolution No. 4634 of August 13, 2007 of the Secretary of Education. General Objective: To train Masters in Education with research, communication, argumentation and explanation skills, which base their professional practice in the research on their being, their knowledge and their work, allowing them to intervene and transform their pedagogical-didactic praxis through an educational project that impacts the institutional, local, regional and national levels. Specific Objectives Reflect critically on the sociopolitical situation of education in global and local contexts as a framework for thinking about viable alternatives for education and teaching in these contexts. Study the pedagogical practice of the participants to identify relevant problems, design and execute disciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects that contribute to the strengthening of educational research at the local and general levels. Analyze the different pedagogical, curriculum and teaching approaches in the light of new trends in knowledge management, to contribute to strengthening the culture of educational research and teaching. Develop, implement and evaluate research proposals for teaching and learning in areas such as natural sciences, social sciences, language, and computers. Promote a consistent link of the specific disciplinary knowledge of teaching, learning pedagogy, didactics, pedagogical practice and research. To train researchers for the establishment and consolidation of research groups within the academic community to contribute to the transformation of educational settings. The Master in Educational Communication is the answer of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira to the need to train professionals in the research and design of communication strategies. The Educational Communication Program is meant for professionals from different areas of knowledge interested in developing cultural education and communication projects, applying new theories and information and communication technologies. Objectives Study and examine various theoretical and methodological issues in the fields of communication and education. Promote the study and analysis of different research experiences and practices of communication in Latin America. BA in Childhood Education

Introduction: The practice of teaching is essential for obtaining development in societies. The role of the educator should be comprehensive. The professional degree in Childhood Education, in addition to the knowledge of human character and teaching and learning techniques must be skilled in handling children and understanding the peculiarities of the education of this target group. Mission: The program of Childhood Education trains graduates in education for the early childhood education, preschool and elementary through comprehensive training of Psychology, Teaching, Language, Research, Arts, Practice and Education. General Objectives The BA in Childhood Education is an interdisciplinary academic program, aimed at high school graduates. BA in Ethnic Education and Community Development

Principles The ethnic education and community development should promote training and self learning of the human being as a historical member of its territory. The ethnic education and community development should encourage group work as a basic fact in the empowerment of individuals, communities and population groups. The ethnic education and community development values school as an institutional, social and cultural setting that addresses in all its complexity, the homogeneous discourse and the mass practices. The ethnic education and community development acknowledges that all cultures are different from each other and are equally valid within its own context. In other words, there are no superior or inferior cultures. The ethnic education and community development should strengthen the local identity of the subject based on the recognition of cultural pluralism, social ties, diversity, autonomy, resource generation and social responsibility. The ethnic education and community development is based on the fact that the knowledge, technology, methods, forms of learning and experiences of different cultures are essential resources to develop, and not an obstacle to overcome. The ethnic education and community development should encourage fair articulation of oppressed communities to the national society, without this diluting their cultural identity. The ethnic education and community development must generate in the person confidence in the process of developing its own culture, territory and community. The ethnic education and community development should strengthen the cohesion of communities and population groups and thus avoid their disintegration and dispersal. Professional Profile Ethnic Education and Community Development The bachelor in Ethnoeducation and Community Development (BECD) during his/her professional career will be involved in the development of a role that will give him/her a power that is shared with others. He/she is no longer the educator that repeats protocols and guides, nor the educator that is the result of the powers that subdue him (Elite, Church, Government). His/hers professional career is closer to the guidelines of an education that values the cultural experience of the subjects, the product emerging of the communities and groups and resources of the land. The BEDC promotes an education produced by, with and for all involved. This means that the different types of rationalities and its products are summoned and they will undergo a dissection that will counteract the dominant influences of the western rationality. The perspective enounced implies the self education of the BEDC, which means the creation or opening of spaces for reflection and professional practice that didn’t exist in the education scenario. Because these spaces were not created in the past due to multiple historical determinations they can only be conquered when their pertinence is shown and the necessity is proven as goals for the indispensable formation for the social and community subject. By the end of the program, the graduate will: Promote changes in decisions and resource generation of community groups through a planned and participatory work; Promote interdisciplinary and participatory research; Develop a scientific view of culture as a dynamic process (local and global) of human production; Rescue, reaffirm and develop the cultural values ??and forms of organization, while trying to establish autonomous practices in community populations; Seek to strengthen national identity by recognizing cultural pluralism; Possess and applies the basic elements of intercultural education; Tend for democratic leaders, possible economies, participatory planning models, models of post-development, bonding and social learning; Has a global view of the processes of formation and transformation of the Colombian nation and of the development policies in Colombia; Strengthen and expand the forms of social organization. BA in Spanish and Literature

Introduction: The community demands autonomous and critical thinkers towards the social phenomena that encourage citizens to understand and interpret the world in various ways. Similarly, the need to have trained professionals to teach oral and written language and literary techniques with all the formalities is required. The Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira offers the degree in Spanish and Literature, with the intention of responding to these paradigms, training professional with high human quality and ethics. GENERAL OBJECTIVE The Degree program in Spanish and Literature is focused in training teachers with emphasis on the Language and Literature Science. The teachers will initially acquire a solid theoretical structure their knowledge, which is a condition that enables them to appropriate teaching skills in order to transmit knowledge and stimulate inquiry and production processes in the areas of the program. As a program of the Faculty of Education of the UTP, it pursues to train teachers who know their subject (language and literature) thoroughly. The degree program in Spanish and Literature responds to the policies of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira when it states the need to "train educators in different spheres of human activity as required by the country and especially our area of influence." The program is structured on the basis of the training of educators and researchers in the fields of Spanish and Literature. This is achieved by the contents of the areas of Spanish, Literature, Foreign Language, Education, Ethics and Citizenship Education. Specific Objectives Prepare teachers of language and literature for high school education. To train academically qualified graduates to access to higher levels of education. Educate researchers in the study of literature and language. Promote basic preparation for text criticism. Encourage the usage of language as an art and supplement the literary creation with the technical and formal aspects. Provide the student population in the region to be educated not only in the specific knowledge from the theoretical point of view, but to encourage individual creative processes and provide the space for research of the interesting cultural processes that the Colombian Coffee region is having nowadays. From the theoretical and practical training offered by the program there is a need for a cultural characterization of literature and of the linguistic context in the Colombian Coffee region. Develop outreach programs for the local community through workshops and seminars in both disciplines, in addition to serving the foreign community through Spanish as a second language courses. Professional Profile The graduate will be able to: Plan, implement and evaluate research projects formulated within the areas of training. Encourage in the student community the artistic and literary creation through their own teaching and writing. Conduct interdisciplinary work with teachers and members of the academic community. Assess research and creative work and that of others, including their own students. Occupational Profile The graduate may work as: The BA in Spanish and Literature serves primarily as a high school teacher of Spanish and Literature. Conducts research in language and literature. The Faculty Education, besides being the basis for the development of any society, is also one of the cardinal points that allows the cognitive transition every human being. The Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira in his need to propose ideas that improve the social processes offers among its programs, degrees in the human field as, the School of Social Sciences, the Spanish School, Audiovisual Communication Studies and the Department of Psychology. The Faculty of Education seeks to train managers who will be oriented to humanism, with knowledge and skills in various fields and for different groups of people. Its involvement in the social tissue is of vital importance, since they are the ones with a new vision for teaching the young and the children. Mission The Faculty of Education has the mission of training Education professionals and other educators in all levels of the education system, including the non-formal and informal education. It develops research process as a condition for scientific, technological and humanistic advance in the field of education and teaching, participating in educational networks at a local, regional, national and international level. Develop learning processes inherent to teaching and assuming a commitment to the institutions of the region, including the family, the society and the media. Develop screening processes to the community through formal, non formal and informal education. Objectives Develop, implement and manage in a rational and efficient way the various programs and processes of teaching, research and extension related to the field of Education. Develop teacher training processes according to the current educational requirements with pedagogy as a cornerstone of education and the future perspective. Develop research as a fundamental condition in order for the Department to consolidate as an excellence academic entity in training teachers. Promote and support programs and / or agreements for the training of researchers through master's programs, doctoral, postdoctoral, internships in national and foreign institutions. Encourage research capacity to identify and raise issues and propose solutions based on development and educational needs or requirements of the region. Develop outreach programs for the needs and demands of the region. Develop wellness programs articulated with the Welfare System of the Universidad Tecnologica de Pereira.
